Modelo de estudio integrado de interfaces web

Hacia una taxonomía de análisis cuantitativa y cualitativa para medios nativos digitales

Analyzing Digital Media Websites: A Model for Web Interface Evaluation

What is this article about?

This article proposes and validates a comprehensive model for analyzing the web interfaces of digital native media using quantitative and qualitative methods. Developed by Tejedor, Romero-Rodríguez, and Codina, the model identifies 5 thematic areas, 16 dimensions, 36 indicators, and 69 variables to assess the narrative quality, usability, visibility, and engagement capacity of journalistic websites.

Why is it important?

Digital native media must deliver not only quality content but also a strong user experience (UX) and SEO visibility. This article explains how a diagnostic matrix can help media outlets evaluate and improve their digital platforms to ensure sustainability, transparency, and reader engagement.

Key Components of the Model

1. Narrative

  • Evaluates formats, storytelling styles, headlines, and visual integration.

  • Measures the use of multimedia, data journalism, and hypertextual elements.

2. Informational Quality

  • Assesses metadata, transparency, fact-checking, and content curation.

  • Includes indicators for source credibility and content depth.

3. Usability

  • Measures layout consistency, reading flow, and personalization options.

  • Flags intrusive ads and layout structures that disrupt readability.

4. Information Search

  • Analyzes presence and quality of search tools.

  • Assesses SEO strategies and content findability.

5. Content Redistribution and Socialization

  • Reviews options for user interaction, sharing, and cross-platform distribution.

Validation and Application

The model was validated via:

  • Literature review

  • Two rounds of expert evaluation (Delphi technique)

  • Pilot testing on 10 digital media outlets in Ibero-America (e.g., eldiario.es, GK, La Silla Vacía)

Results showed:

  • Wide variation in narrative richness and SEO visibility

  • General weaknesses in content personalization and related content linking

  • Leaders in quality: La Brava (Bolivia), Eldiario.es (Spain)
